Alison will discuss the principles and challenges of setting up a groundbreaking randomised controlled trial, highlighting the background evidence for medicinal cannabis in paediatric care. While the trial has faced several delays and no results are available yet, the webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the foundational aspects and ongoing efforts to investigate this emerging treatment option.

About the speaker
Dr Bowers is a Registered Children’s Nurse (United Kingdom) and Registered General Nurse (Australia). She currently works as a Research Fellow in the Cancer and Palliative Care Outcomes Centre, within the Centre for Healthcare Transformation at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. Her research focus is paediatric palliative care, and she has a particular interest in health services research, large data and medicinal cannabis. Dr Bowers is a Chief Investigator, Project Manager and Trial Coordinator for the 'MINI Trial', a medicinal cannabis clinical trial for children with advanced cancer, an Associate Investigator and Project Manager for the evaluation of the Queensland Paediatric Palliative Care Outreach Collaborative and the project team lead for a needs analysis and gap-analysis in the delivery of Paediatric Palliative Care across Australia. Dr Bowers is also a Director for the Australian College of Children and Young People’s Nurses.
